There is a version of Downtown Fontana that only exists in the memory of the people who have been here longest — the family that remembers when Sierra Avenue had a different rhythm, the shop owner who can tell you which storefront used to be what, the resident who walked these blocks before the palms were this tall.
This series is about that version.
What we are looking for
Living Downtown will be a running series about the neighborhood as it is actually lived in, not as it gets described from the outside. That means:
- History — where the blocks came from, what stood here before, and how the downtown we see today got to look the way it does.
- Daily life — what it is actually like to live, walk, and run errands here. The things you only notice on foot.
- Mobility — how people get around, what works, what is frustrating, and what is changing as the corridor evolves.
- People — the residents who give downtown its character, in their own words.
Why a series
A single article cannot hold a neighborhood. Downtown Fontana is too layered for one piece — too many blocks, too many decades, too many people with different reasons for being here. A series lets the story accumulate over time, the way a place actually does.
The first real entries in this series are coming soon. If you have lived here a long time, or if you just moved in, or if you know someone whose story should be told, I want to hear from you. The best version of this series is built with the people who are in it.
For now, consider this the opening note. The stories behind the place are coming.
